Adventist Pastors Grilled Over Death of Worshipers
January 6, 2014
Police detectives have interrogated two Seventh Day Adventist Church pastors in Burera District, Northern Province, in connection with the death on New Year's Day, of four worshipers.
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Northern Region Spokesperson, Supt Christopher Semuhungu, on Monday, told The New Times that two pastors, Thadee Ngerero and Daniel Rwabirindi, had been questioned and investigations were still ongoing.
Twenty-four other people sustained injuries when the unfinished church building in Gahunga Sector, gave in to strong winds and caved in, at around mid-day.
The deceased were identified as Naphtal Ngarambe, 64, Pelagie Uwimana, 24, Zawadi Tumukunde, 9, and Dorcas Umubyeyi, 5.
"We questioned them and we are preparing a full dossier to be forwarded to Prosecution in the near future," Semuhungu said.
"The issue is, even if there were strong winds on that day, why would they endanger human life by allowing people to pray from an unfinished building?"
