Methodists and Catholics partner for worship and mission

The Merrimacport United Methodist Church and the Holy Redeemer Parish, Nativity Church are partnering together this Lent to host ecumenical worship and mission in the community.

Worship will take place on Tuesday evenings at 7 on March 10 at the Port Church and March 17 at the Nativity Church.

Attendees will be invited to bring donations of personal care items such as soap and deodorant for the collaborative mission. Then on March 31, the churches will gather together to assemble personal care kits for homeless people and families, which will be given to Our Neighbors’ Table in Amesbury.

“There’s so much need in the community,” said the Rev. Gwyneth Arrison of the Port Church. “Churches can help meet those needs much more effectively by working together.”

The Rev. George Morin of the Nativity Church and Arrison began hosting ecumenical Lenten services last year and are excited to include a mission experience this year.

The two churches have set a goal of assembling 50 personal care kits. Children will make Easter cards for the care kits as well. Items, gift cards or financial donations may be brought to the Tuesday Ecumenical worship services. New items only please.

Bath towel (about 30-by-60 inches); hand towel (about 15-by-30 inches); wash cloth (about 13-by-13 inches); large bottle shampoo; bar soap; deodorant; toothpaste; toothbrush; dental floss; comb; nail clippers.
