Second graders get hygiene bags with condoms and lubricant

Second graders get hygiene bags with condoms and lubricant

KUSI | March 24, 2015

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) - A second grade teacher at Feaster Charter Elementary School in Chula Vista distributed hygiene bags to students which contained shampoo, soap, condoms, lubricant and matches, among other things.

The second grade teacher is friends with an outreach worker at the San Diego Youth Services, a local organization that works with the homeless and high-risk youth.

The organization provided the 40 bags distributed to the elementary students, but the organization's CEO said the bags were meant to help the homeless and high-risk youth.

He also said, the teacher who gave the bags way may not have been aware of the safer-sex items inside the bags.

The mother of one of the second grade students who received one of the bags said she was bothered and felt numb when she made the discovery.

"He is seven-years-old, and I don't know how to feel. They distributed it to the whole classroom. It even says that you can have as many as you want. And for me to see this and the kids grabbing more than just one, it highly bothered me," said Janice Rodel.

School officials have said no other parents have complained.

The school is on Spring Break this week, but the investigation into this incident will continue.
