Muslim man shot dead by SWAT after taking hostages at Texas Walmat

The gunman shot dead by police inside a Walmart in Texas has been identified as an employee at the store who had a work-related dispute with one of the people he took hostage. Mohammad Moghaddam, 54, took two people hostage, including a manager with whom he had a work-related dispute, at the store at Walmart at I-27 and Georgia Street in Amarillo, police said.

He was shot dead by SWAT team members shortly before 2pm on Tuesday, the Amarillo Police Department said.

The two hostages were released and are not injured.

The incident was sparked by a promotion and Moghaddam may have been angry that he was passed over for it, Lt. Erick Bohanan with APD's Special Crimes Unit told ABC7.

The hostage situation ended when police fired at the gunman. He was dead at around 12.20pm.
