Security Breach at Glendale Adventist Hospital

Editorial

The medical records with private information including names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, and social security numbers were illegally accessed at Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

The security breach was reported by the LA Times and states the the security breach was discovered after a routine security review. It was discovered that a nurse, who was fired, did not have authorization and had been accessing the private records of hospital patients.

“Our patients are our top priority and privacy is a critical part of our commitment to patient care,” hospital spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez said in an email. “We sincerely apologize for any impact this incident may have on patients affected.”

Generally, these kind of data breaches are done in identity theft cases where personal information is stolen in order to obtain a financial advantage, credit or other benefits in other peoples' name. This is either done directly by the individual who has illegally accessed the private records or by a their party who buys the information and commits the identity fraud.

This just goes to show the sin and corruption does not discriminate against religion. We are all susceptible to the deceitfulness of greed and selfishness if not kept by the power of the Holy Spirit. By the grace of God, we need a concerted church ministry and people so that we can be used to finish the work.

"When the storm of persecution really breaks upon us, the true sheep will hear the true Shepherd’s voice. Self-denying efforts will be put forth to save the lost, and many who have strayed from the fold will come back to follow the great Shepherd. The people of God will draw together, and present to the enemy a united front.... The love of Christ, the love of our brethren, will testify to the world that we have been with Jesus and learned of Him. Then will the message of the third angel swell to a loud cry, and the whole earth will be lightened with the glory of the Lord." Evangelsim 693.
