Chile enacts law to ensure Sunday rest for Commerce Workers

The president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet promulgated the law governing working hours of workers trade initiative that establishes Sunday rest, in addition to the two monthly employees have this item seven Sundays a year.

"This law will benefit nearly one million compatriots, whose work and effort, enable malls and supermarkets operate on a continuous basis throughout the week. From today, along with better organize the work day, Chile is it moving in rescue for all its workers the right to Sunday rest, "he said.

Just as the head of state explained that the legislation hours worked during Sundays Remunerated have a surcharge of 30% on the value of the corresponding hour base pay for both full-time workers, such as those serving part-time independent of the number of hours they are hired.

"This right to Sunday rest can not be compensated in cash or may accumulate from year to year, because we want our workers truly can do anything with this free time," said Bachelet.

Meanwhile the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Javiera Blanco;highlighted the advantages of this labor initiative, ensuring that workers in the sector will have 29 Sundays a year for their work.

He also said that the new legislation is the result of joint and coordinated between representatives of workers and employers in commerce and supermarkets and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, in order to develop proposals that go in improving the system of work and Sunday rest, as well as productivity and organization of the working day of the sector.

"This is the way how a country coming to agreement on a dialogue between workers and employers is constructed," White said. He also stressed that "the law allows to reconcile family life with work".
