This world is not our home

This world is not our home

Editorial | Advent Messenger

"For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come." Hebrews 13:14. This world is not our home. We must remember this as we observe the madness and confusion throughout the societies and civilizations that surround us. We are just passing through this place on our way towards heaven. Our hope is not in this world. Our hope is in the coming of the Lord!

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19-21.

We are reminded that this world is just temporary. And even though we are in the world, we are not part of this world because all that we see today shall pass. This sin-ridden world with all its suffering and misery is not the final rewards for God's people.

Many cities are seeing a rise in violent crime - as high as 20% increase. This is not just happening here in America, it's happening worldwide! And far too many Christian believers are living as though this is our final destination and as though this is it. The temptation is to invest all of our means, time, money, and energy in seeking earthly treasures.

Yet the Bible reminds us that our citizenship is not here but in heaven. We need to be continually reminded that this is not our home. By God's grace, we are just passing through. This miserable world of evil will soon pass away. And God's people will go home to be with Jesus!

Amen!
