Married lesbian couple to lead prominent D.C. Baptist church


Calvary Baptist Church, a progressive Baptist landmark in the heart of downtown Washington, has named a gay couple as co-pastors. Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen were presented to the congregation during worship services Jan. 8 and are set to begin their new jobs Feb. 26.

The Australian-Canadian cartoon, marketed toward children between the ages of 2 and 11 years old, comes from the creative mind of Obie Scott Wade, who told Zap2it.com that the idea for the animated series was inspired by a cartoon from his youth, "Shazam!", and his general love for superheroes. Wade denies that the show pushes any particular agenda, other than to entertain kids.

Sda churches hold funerals services for shooting victims

A number of Central Florida churches have offered free funeral services to families of victims in the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub. Florida Hospital Church in downtown Orlando, Metro Church in Winter Springs, Forest Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church in Apopka and Forest City Spanish Adventist Church in Altamonte Springs have all volunteered to conduct the services at no cost.

Megachurch pastor Joel Hunter has said that evangelicals, including himself, must repent of where they have been complicit in the oppression of LGBT communities. The senior pastor of Northland Church, a 20,000 member, nondenominational church, admitted that "institutional forms of white Christianity" have been complicit in the denigration of LGBT communities, but expressed hope for "the next generation" of Christians.
