Koreas Trade Fire; Island Residents in Shelters

March 31, 2014 | Associated Press

Koreas Trade Fire; Island Residents in SheltersSEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North and South Korea fired hundreds of artillery shells into each other's waters Monday in a flare-up of animosity that forced residents of five front-line South Korean islands to evacuate to shelters for several hours, South Korean officials said.

North Korea fired 500 rounds of artillery shells over more than three hours, about 100 of which fell south of the sea boundary, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said. South Korea responded by firing 300 shells into North Korean waters, he said.

No shells from either side were fired at any land or military installations, but Kim called the North's artillery firing a provocation aimed at testing Seoul's security posture. There was no immediate comment from North Korea.

In Washington, White House spokesman Jonathan Lalley called North Korea's actions "dangerous and provocative" and said they would further aggravate tensions in the region.

Magnitude-5.1 earthquake rattles Los Angeles area

Monday, March 31, 2014 | Faith Karimi and Joe Sutton | CNN

Magnitude-5.1 earthquake rattles Los Angeles area A magnitude-5.1 earthquake struck the Los Angeles area Friday night, jolting nearby communities and breaking water mains in some neighborhoods.

Its epicenter was in Orange County, one mile east of La Habra and four miles north of Fullerton, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Shortly after the earthquake, nearly two dozen aftershocks followed. A magnitude-4.1 shake rattled the area Saturday afternoon, centered about a mile and a quarter southeast of the Los Angeles County community of Rowland Heights, the geological agency said.

After the Friday night earthquake, authorities said police and local fire departments assessed affected areas and found no damage or significant injuries. One minor injury was reported in Orange County, emergency officials said.

"Tonight's earthquake is the second in two weeks, and reminds us to be prepared," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said.

Southern California has experienced relatively minor tremors since 1994 when a magnitude-6.7 quake killed dozens and caused $42 billion in damage. It now stands as the second-costliest disaster in U.S. history, after Hurricane Katrina.

The Assault on Marriage Continues in Britain

Married Couples Now a Minority in U.K.
World News Daily
March 30, 2014

Married people are now in a minority in England and Wales after millions gave up on ever tying the knot.

New figures show that 51 per cent of people are ‘not married’ for the first time, up from 47 per cent in a decade. It marks a dramatic shift from the 1930s when 9 in 20 people had married by the time they turned 40.

The Office for National Statistics said the changes were the result of declining numbers of people making it up the aisle since the 1970s and changing social attitudes towards people who co-habit or live alone.

Non Affiliated Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Publishes Controversial Billboards

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) March 28, 2014
Seventh-day Adventist

A self supporting Seventh-day Adventist pastor recently published two billboards in northwest Michigan that is grabbing the attention of people.

There are two controversial billboards that have recently been placed in northwest Michigan. One depicts the Virgin Mary and asks if Virgin Mary sightings are real and if the dead can really speak to us. The other describes Saturday as being the true Lord's day and claims that the day was changed to Sunday by the Antichrist. Both billboards offer a free book to those who call the phone number listed: 1-866-7TH-DAY-2.

Pastor Raphael Perez of the Eternal Gospel Church is responsible for the billboards. A look at his website describes his ministry as being founded in 1992 by Seventh-day Adventist believers.

"We have been engaged in a campaign for over 15 years with more than 100 billboards in the major cities and highways across America," says the Florida pastor.

When asked if he thinks his message could be characterized as controversial, he says yes. "Every present truth that God has for His people will always be considered unpopular. And it is no different today," he explains.

Even though Pastor Raphael Perez is not part of the 18 million member Seventh-day Adventist denomination, he claims that the message of his billboards is deep-rooted in Seventh-day Adventist theology.

"Historically, our Seventh-day Adventist pioneers of the 19th Century used to engage in this same work. Sadly, during the last few decades, the leaders of the church have been shying away from this work in order to become more ecumenical," Pastor Perez continues.

Both billboards are located outside of Cadillac, Michigan, one on State Road 115 and the other is on Business Highway 131. Michigan is considered a central point in the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The church was founded in Michigan in 1863 during its first world convention. Later their first hospital and college were established there also. The founding fathers of the church, James and Ellen White, are buried in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Pastor Raphael Perez's church was previously known as the Eternal Gospel Seventh-day Adventist Church. But as a result of its straightforward style of evangelism, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, the highest governing body of the denomination, sued what they described in federal court as a "hate group" from using the denomination's name. A federal lawsuit was filed in 1999 over trademark infringement, unfair competition, and dilution. The lawsuit ended with a settlement which resulted in the current name of the church - "Eternal Gospel Church, Founded in 1992 by Seventh-day Adventist Believers."

"It is true that my church suspended my membership and even sued me in federal court, but I am still a Seventh-day Adventist believer," says Pastor Raphael Perez when asked about the lawsuit. "The message I believe in and preach is still the same message that the church once taught and still teaches," he continues. "It's not me who has changed. They have changed."

Pastor Perez says that the work of his ministry is supported by people from both within and without the denomination.

Gay Marriage Became Legal in England and Wales

March 30, 2014 | United Kingdom | | Breaking News

Gay marriage has just become legal in England and Whales. These Gay unions are now celebrated as an equal, legitimate alternative to traditional marriages - with all its privileges, recognitions, benefits, and protections under the law.

British Prime Minister David Cameron was quoted as saying: "This weekend is an important moment for our country." He also congratulated all the gay couples who have already been married and he gives his best wishes to those who were still planning on getting married.

Prime Minister Cameron hopes that this new law would encourage and support young people who were still "unsure about their sexuality."

The new law has the support and backing of all the main political parties in England. They were sending a message to the world that it is time to legitimize gay marriage.

We are seeing a world-wide crusade to change our culture and to bring us back to the Biblical days of Sodom. What is next? Certainly the gay lobby will also petition President Obama to acknowledge the rights of the gay community and legalize their right to marry.

The moral and spiritual conditions of this world is being brought down to new levels never yet seen. Never in the history of the world has the gay lifestyle received such world-wide support. Jesus predicted that these signs would be seen in our world just before returns in the clouds of heaven.

"As it was in the days of Lot, even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17:28-29.

Seventh-day Adventist Church Should Remember the Greatest Commandment

Editorial |

Seventh-day Adventist Church Should Remember the Greatest CommandmentA recent publication in the Huffington Post calls upon the Seventh-day Adventist Church to show love towards its LGBT constituency. The person responsible for this publication was attempting to show the inconsistency of the Church because it fails to support or recognize the gay movement. It cited the recent passing of laws in Uganda and Nigeria that criminalizes the gay and lesbian lifestyles and then tries to use those examples to compare the plight of gay and lesbian Seventh-day Adventists who are being maligned by a church that does not "love" them. The article is somewhat confusing; but nevertheless is has received a lot of attention.

The position of the Seventh-day Adventist Church  is very clear and to the point. Now as to whether that position is based upon love depends on what your definition of love is. The church basically says:

"The Seventh-day Adventist Church subscribes to the Biblical teaching that the practice of homosexuality is condemned by God and is forbidden. At the same time the church is strongly opposed to acts of violence, hatred or discrimination against a person because of his or her sexual orientation."

This is a clear-cut position that does two things: (1) It respects and defends the rights of people to live free from persecution. (2) It also shows that you can defend the rights of those you don't agree with. Is that an unloving and unchristian position? We don't believe so.

Who wouldn't gladly welcome the support and defense of liberty and freedom from those who disagree with us? However, we don't believe that this is the real issue. There seems to be a hidden agenda working behind this Huffington Post article. It seems that the LGBT movement doesn't believe that it is enough to show toleration. It seems that the LGBT movement doesn't believe that it is enough to denounce acts of violence and discrimination against gays and lesbians.

It appears the LGBT movement wants the church to embrace the lifestyle and celebrate it. It seems that the LGBT movement wants full endorsement and equal recognition and will never be satisfied until this happens. That seems to be the real motive, which would then make disingenuous and puts into question the validity of their "love" argument.
God's loves everyone and wants to restore and renew us all to His image - the image which we once possessed back in Creation when God created one man and one female. Notice the love and character of God:

"The LORD God, (1) merciful and (2) gracious, (3) longsuffering, and abundant in (4) goodness and (5) truth, Keeping (6) mercy for thousands, (7) forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; (8) visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation." Exo. 34:6-7.

What a wonderful and awesome God we worship! He is six parts merciful, one part truth, and one part justice. Praise God.  God's love is based on principle. It's not just emotionalism. God's love doesn't mean that I have to run away from truth; but rather it helps me to take a stand for truth.

We believe that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is being faithful to its calling on this issue and we should not confuse what the real issues are under a guise of "love."

Demons are More Popular than God in Britain

Editorial |

A recent news paper from the United Kingdom published a startling report that in Britain more people believe in ghosts than in God.

"If you believe in ghosts, panic when you break a mirror and would rather walk on to the road than under a ladder, you are not alone. In fact, Britons are more likely to have faith in the supernatural than in God, a survey has found." Daily Mail, March 26, 2014

What's going on in Briton is happening everywhere. There is an explosion and fascination for the occult. People are being driven by our culture to seek "familiar spirits" and "mediums" and "wizards." Hollywood is influencing the world with their blockbuster movies glorifying the supernatural, the mystical phenomenas instead of look to the living God.

"And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?" Isa. 8:19.

The world will continue to be decieved by the sophestry of the devil through the rise of modern spiritualsim.

"For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty." Rev. 16:14.

Below is bilboard exposing the dangers of modern spiritualsim.

Pope Francis Tells President Obama to Back Off

Editorial |

When President Obama met with Pope Francis at the Vatican earlier today, Obama was light-spirited and jovial trying to make the most of his visit. Pope Francis on the other hand stressed his concerns and reservations that he has with the President and manifested a much more serious tone and demeanor. Reuters News revealed today that this what happened at the Vatican:

"The president appeared at ease and joked during the parts of his meeting with the pope that were open to a few reporters, but a brief Vatican statement issued later indicated that Obama's private talks there had a more serious side. The statement said Obama, who was accompanied by Secretary of State John Kerry, was told of the Vatican's concern about "the exercise of the rights to religious freedom, life and conscientious objection" in the United States. This was a reference to the mandate in Obama's controversial health care plan which requires employers to cover the cost of contraception in insurance plans." Reuters News, March 27, 2014.

In other words the Pope basically told Obama, "Don't dictate to the church what we must do through your health care initiatives. It is our job to tell you what you must do for us." This is the principle by which Rome has operated for 2,000 years. Rome's official doctrine teaches that it is the church that dictates and controls the state, and not the other way around.

The attitude of the Roman Catholic leadership is described in the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas, the great Catholic theologian and philosopher who helped shape the doctrine on the supremacy of the church over the affairs of the state.

Thomas Aquinas wrote: "Secular power is subject to the spiritual power as the body is subject to the soul. In the pope the secular power is joined to the spiritual." The Political Ideas of St. Thomas Aquinas, New York: Hafner Publishing company, 1953, xxiv.

Obama got a crash course today as to what his role is in his relationship to Rome. Prophecy describes this cozy church/state alliance in Revelation 13:12. This verse reveals that the state will eventually succumb to the pressure of the church and enforce her wishes and her dogmas.

"And he exercised all the power of the first beast before him." Rev. 13:12. This means that United States will perform the same "authority" or "power" of the first beast - Rome! We are seeing these two power coming together into a close relationship. As prophecy is being fulfilled, we are to look up for our salvation draweth nigh.

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:28.

Pope Francis and President Obama met in Secret for Almost One Hour

Editorial |

U.S. President Obama drove into St. Peter's Basilica today in his presidential motorcade. His SUV was adorning both the U.S. and Vatican flags as he came to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican in what is sure to be both a historical and prophetic meeting.

All meetings between popes and presidents are historical in nature because they are unquestionably the two most influential world leaders. And any decision, policies, or agreements they make will automatically have far reaching geopolitical implications and consequences.

Several news outlets described that President Obama introduced himself to Pope Francis with the words: “It is a great honor. I’m a great admirer.Thank you so much for receiving me.”

Up until the end of this last century it would never have been considered a great honor for the "Pontifex Maximus," a title used by ancient pagan Roman Emperors now applied to the Pope, to be embraced by a United States President. Our Founding Fathers rejected the European model of church and state. They rejected the concept of having either a king or a pope in America. They understood that the union of church and state ultimately results in persecution for minority groups. That is why the constitution guaranteed and codified freedom of religion and separation of church and state.

But today our U.S. President is embracing new modern ideas and the "secular state" is now seeking the favor and approval of the church. And after taking  several photos together from more than 100 plus photographers and video cameramen, the Pope and President excused themselves to have what was to be a "private" meeting for 30 minutes.

The media described that the talks between the two world leaders was going to be centered around contraception, abortion, gay marriage, poverty, peace efforts, and other issues that are happening around the world.

Surprisingly though, the private meeting between President Obama and Pope Francis lasted up to almost one hour. They came out smiling and exchanged more pictures and some gifts. Even though nothing was said to the media, the Associated Press did however publish a statement made by the President that gives us some insight as to what may have been discussed and what was President Obama's attitude during the private meeting:

“Given his great moral authority, when the pope speaks it carries enormous weight...He can cause people around to the world to stop and perhaps rethink old attitudes and begin treating one another with more decency and compassion.” Associated Press, March 27, 2014.

What are some those "old attitudes" that we must rethink? Could that be the freedom of religious liberty guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution? Only heaven knows what was really discussed. But one thing is certain - we are entering the final apocalypse and something much more sinister is happending that we can ever imagine.

Time will tell what the results will be, yet prophecy has already declared through its inspired writings that we are living in the days when persecution, chaos, natural and man made disasters will increase more and more. These events will culminate into the implimentation of the mark of the beast.

All the signs of the times are being fulfilled. "These have one mind [political leaders], and shall give their power and strength unto the beast [church power]." Rev. 17:13.

Pope Francis on gays: Who am I to judge?

This video reveals the Pope's attitude towards the homosexuals that are in the Vatican. It's time We Get Back to Observing the Sabbath

It's time We Get Back to Observing the Sabbath
The Sabbath and its observance are deeply rooted in Judeo-Christian belief. Many of us were raised with the belief that the Sabbath is based on the 10 Commandments and that those still apply to mankind. After all, didn't we also believe in the concept of not murdering (sixth commandment), not stealing (eighth commandment) and not lying (ninth commandment), which are also part of the 10 Commandments?

From that beginning, the Sabbath was known and practiced as a day of rest and worship. Literally, this was a God-ordained break from most human activity. In all my church-visiting activity in Anchorage over 10 to 12 years, I can think of no local church I've visited that truly follows the biblical injunction in Exodus 20:8-12. Most Christian churches in Anchorage have one- or two-hour worship services, some offer Sunday school, which few members attend, and some offer Sunday evening services, which reflect a tiny cross section of members. For the most part, the rest of Saturday or Sunday, depending on the worship day observed, is business as usual. Consequently, most local Christians spend the Sabbath working, shopping, watching television, fishing, hunting, hiking, snow activities and thousands of other activities.

The 24/7 mentality in our society is ruining our inner health and peace, intruding upon those sacred things many of us grew up with. The practical observance of Sabbath would provide some of what's missing. This profoundly felt lack is being documented by many who are even beginning to take secular Sabbaths.

It's time for churches to dust off the 10 Commandments and teach about the power of true Sabbath observance. Moral relevance is still powerful, and the observance of the Sabbath offers powerful benefits when rightly presented by clergy who should know. As important as 10 Commandment observance is, I'd love to hear my first sermon from Anchorage clergy on Sabbath.

Air Pollution linked to Seven Million Deaths Globally

Prophecy says that God will return and reward those who destroy the earth and cause all these man-made tragedies. Truly, the Lord will reveal Himself soon and bring an end to all of these things. Revelation 11:18 tells us that Christ will return again and "destroy them which destroy the earth."  -Advent Messenger Commentary

Air Pollution Linked to Seven Million Deaths Globally
BBC news
March 25, 2014
By Helen Briggs

Seven million people died as a result of air pollution in 2012, the World Health Organization estimates.

Its findings suggest a link between air pollution and heart disease, respiratory problems and cancer.

One in eight global deaths were linked with air pollution, making it "the world's largest single environmental health risk", the WHO said.

Nearly six million of the deaths had been in South East Asia and the WHO's Western Pacific region, it found.

The WHO said about 3.3 million people had died as a result of indoor air pollution and 2.6 million deaths were related to outdoor air pollution, mainly in low- and middle-income countries in those regions.

The Apostasy of World Vision Embracing Gay Marriage

One of the oldest and must trusted Christian charitable organization is now attempting to redefine the marriage relationship. Christians are now starting to accept the culture of this world. This is the end-time scenario found in Luke 17: 28-30 that will exist just before the imminent return of Jesus. -Advent Messenger Commentary

The Apostasy of World Vision Embracing Gay Marriage
Christian Post
March 25, 2014
by Michael Browm

Shortly after I broke the news on my radio broadcast and on social media, Christianity Today confirmed the report: World Vision has decided to embrace homosexual "marriage" among its employees and to recognize practicing homosexual employees who profess faith in Jesus as true Christians.

This is a betrayal of the gospel, a betrayal of the Lord, a betrayal of the family, and a betrayal of the countless thousands of Christians who have put their trust in World Vision as a legitimate Christian organization.

Conversion of Sweden's Most Influential Pastor Causes Pain and Disillusion

Ulf Ekman, the top Evangelical Protestant minister in Sweden, recently converted to Roman Catholicism. In his explanation as to why he converted he said:

"I discovered how little I really knew about [Catholics], their spirituality and their beliefs. Unconsciously I carried many prejudices and bad attitudes and have been quick to judge them without really knowing what they actually believed. It has been good to discover and to repent from nonchalant and shallow opinions, based not on their own sources but on their opponents, and to discover a very rich heritage, a strong theological foundation and a deep love for Jesus Christ among them."

Ulf Ekman concludes:

"This is not a severing of ties. The Lord gave me a word a few months ago: 'The task is fulfilled but the friendship remains.' We treasure the friendship we have with you in the Lord and believe we will, in a different capacity continue to have a living fellowship and a deep unity in Jesus."

Federal Task Force Conducts Unannounced School Lock-down Drills

Is this the new protocol for our schools?  Are our kids being condition to live in a police state? Will our churches and homes soon be subjected to this kind of "Unannounced Lock-down"? -Advent Messenger Commentary

Homeland Security Conducts Unannounced Lock-down Drill at Glen Ridge High
BY Georgette Gilmore
Thursday, Mar 13, 2014

We know our children have lock-down drills. It’s a sad, unfortunate part of the world we live in. However Glen Ridge students had a lock-down drill supervised by Homeland Security!

On Thursday, March 6, a team comprised of ten officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the NJ Department of Education’s Safety and Security Task Forces visited Glen Ridge High School to conduct an unannounced school lock-down drill.  With the exception of Glen Ridge Superintendent Dr. John Mucciolo and Chief of Police Sheila Byron-Lagattutta, no Glen Ridge Public School personnel received advanced notice of the exercise.

After a brief interview with GRHS Principal Dirk Phillips, the federal/state security team instructed Mr. Phillips to activate the school’s lock-down protocol.  The protocol was initiated, the police arrived, and the drill went off successfully.

Superintendent Dr. Mucciolo praised the GRHS administrators, staff and students, as well as the local police force for their efforts. “The NJ DOE team told us that of all the schools they have visited, GRHS was one of the best.”

Canada Vaccinating Children by Force

Canadian Parents Outraged After School Officials Vaccinate Their Children Without Consent
March 23, 2014

Controversy has erupted in western Canada after public school nurses reportedly vaccinated a 14-year-old student without her parents' consent. reports that the Bootsma family of British Columbia is furious and demanding answers after their ninth-grader was pulled out of class one day and coerced into getting the combination DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) vaccine without a parental consent form or even parental notification.

Dean Bootsma says his daughter became a target of the state after school officials learned that she had not been jabbed like most of the other children in her class, a conscious and deliberate decision that he and his wife made after their other daughter died following routine vaccinations. Believing that their now-14-year-old daughter, who has chosen to remain anonymous, may also have a predisposition to vaccine adverse events, the Bootsmas hoped to take the precautionary route by avoiding vaccines altogether.

President Obama has Catholic Roots?

In preparation to President Obama's visit to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis on Thursday March 27, 2014, the New York Times is portraying the President as a Roman Catholic who shares the same vision of the Roman Catholic Church.

The article "The Catholic Roots of Obama's Activism" by Jason Horowitzmarch published March 23, 2014 gives a lot of references in where President Obama, as a young man, was organizing the missionary endeavors of the Roman Catholic Church. This article explores Obama's relationship and alliance with Rome.

China to West: Don’t You Dare Sanction Russia

Are we on the brink of a universal crisis? China threatens the US not to move forward with sanctions against Russia. The winds of strife of Revelation are about to explode upon our world, but they will hold until the gospel has finished its work - "Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads" (Rev. 7:3). - Advent Messenger Commentary

China to West: Don't You Dare Sanction Russia
March 16, 2014

In an interview with Reuters, China’s ambassador to Germany offered a stark warning to the West as it seeks to sanction top Russian officials over the Ukraine invasion. ”We don’t see any point in sanctions,” said Ambassador Shi Mingde. “Sanctions could lead to retaliatory action, and that would trigger a spiral with unforeseeable consequences. We don’t want this.”
No doubt few countries are watching the Ukraine crisis as closely as China. Both Russia and China share an interest in limiting the West’s ability to interfere in certain sensitive areas. As Beijing continues building a formidable navy and coast guard, and flexing its muscles in the South and East China Seas, policy-makers are paying close attention to how much provocation the West is willing to endure. As Gideon Rachman, the FT‘s foreign affairs guru, wrote this week, “If President Vladimir Putin gets away with it then other governments, such as China and Iran, may decide defying America is getting less risky.”

Russian Stocks Down as Banks Suffer Amid Sanctions

Associated Press
March 21, 4014
by Nataliya Vasilyeva

The sanctions are already being felt on the streets of Russia as Visa and MasterCard stopped serving two Russian banks, a day after the U.S. ordered sanctions against two dozen people from President Vladimir Putin's entourage. Russian shares continued to falter Friday, and the benchmark MICEX index was down 2 percent in late afternoon trading.

The Russian stock market has lost than more 10 percent this month amid growing tensions between Russia and the West.In comments carried by Russian news agencies, Russia's Finance Minister Anton Siluanov became the first Russian official to admit to an economic fallout from the sanctions. The economic sanctions ordered on Thursday by President Barack Obama targeted 20 people, including Putin's chief of staff and four influential businessmen who are believed to be his lifelong friends, and also a major Russian bank that provides them support.

Two Russian banks, including Bank Rossiya, the Russian lender which was put on the Treasury's sanctions list, said Visa and MasterCard have stopped providing services to them. U.S. officials described Russia's 15th largest bank with $12 billion in assets as a "personal bank for senior officials of the Russian Federation."

And clients of another Russian lender, SMP, woke up Friday to discover that their bank cards are not as useful as they were. In a statement, it said Visa and MasterCard stopped providing their services "without prior notification." SMP's co-owners, Arkady and Boris Rotenberg — billionaire brothers and childhood friends of Putin — were hit by the U.S. sanctions.

The bank, which is in Russia's top 40 with $5 billion in assets, said it had no assets in the United States and described Visa and MasterCard's actions as "illegitimate" because the bank, unlike its owners, was not covered by the sanctions.

As a result, customers in the two banks won't be able to use cards backed by Visa and MasterCard to buy products in shops online or withdraw cash from ATMs beyond their own bank's. They can also get cash directly inside their banks' branches.

Since U.S. and EU banks and investors may well be reluctant to lend to Russia under the current circumstances, the economy may slow further and the private sector may require official support.

Pope Francis tops Fortune's 'World's Greatest Leaders' list, but no Obama
March 20, 2014
by Eun Kyung Kim

Pope Francis was named the world's greatest leader by Fortune magazine, topping a diverse list released Thursday.

Fortune’s first list of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders includes a Hollywood actress, a baseball

superstar, a teenage education advocate and the president of a small California college. It also includes a former American president, but the current one failed to make the cut.

"President Obama wasn't excluded from Fortune's World's 50 Greatest Leaders list,” Fortune said in a statement. “He simply didn't make this year's list of 50 outstanding individuals who have demonstrated rare leadership, leadership in multiple areas or who have demonstrated a long history of leading.”

Evangelicals Urge Obama To Discuss Climate Change With Pope Francis

The real plan is to change the world's religious climate. But first you have to start with the environment, then the banking systems, then the governments, and finally create a one-world religion. It has happened in the past over and over again throughout Bible history, and prophecy has declared that this will happen in these last days. We are beginning to see it. -Advent Messenger Commentary

Evangelicals Urge Obama To Discuss Climate Change With Pope Francis
March 19, 2014
By Jack Jenkins

A group of faith-based environmental advocates are encouraging thousands of religious Americans to sign a petition asking President Barack Obama to discuss climate change with Pope Francis during their upcoming meeting on March 27.

The online petition, which is posted on the White House’s “We the People” website, was created by Richard Cizik, head of the New Evangelical Partnership for the Common Good, a progressive evangelical Christian organization. In addition to asking President Obama to invite the pope to visit one of America’s national parks and monuments, the petition makes the religious case for action on climate change.

“We ask that President Obama give the Pope a photograph of one of our majestic parks or new national monuments as an example of America’s proud tradition of conservation leadership, and discuss the sacred obligation of people across faiths to protect God’s creation,” the petition read, adding, “Conservation is a moral responsibility.”

The petition currently has around 500 signatures. However, If it passes the 100,000 threshold, the website’s policy dictates that the White House is required to offer an official response.

The online effort hopes to build on Pope Francis’ increasingly progressive environmental record. Like Pope Benedict XVI before him, Francis frequently lists the need to care for the earth as a core religious value, and even called on believers to “protect creation” during his inaugural mass. He is also is reportedly preparing a formal encyclical on the environment, set to be released later this year.

Other people of faith are also increasingly rallying behind environmental causes. In addition to the New Evangelical Partnership, organizations such as Interfaith Power and Light, Interfaith Moral Action on Climate, and the Good Steward Campaign have been working for years to organize people of faith for collective action around climate change, and Catholic nuns are currently key leaders in efforts to stop the construction of the Bluegrass Pipeline in Kentucky.

The petition also comes at a time when the pope’s popularity is surging among Washington lawmakers. President Obama quoted Pope Francis in a recent speech on economic inequality, and last week House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), both of whom are Catholic, formally invited the pontiff to address a joint session of Congress.

Cizik and company are not the only progressive advocates soliciting the help of the head of the Catholic church. Activists who support an overhaul of the U.S. immigration system are also seeking an audience with Pope Francis the day before he meets with President Obama. They hope to present him more than 1,000 letters written by children whose families are in danger of deportation.

Banking Systems Coming Together

The banking systems need to be controlled in order for the prophecies to reach their final fulfillment. The mark of beast, found in Revelation 13:17, will be enforced through banking regulations that won't allow anyone to buy of sell. This means that all the so-called independent banking systems will have to controlled. This is all working according to a bigger plan. -Advent Messenger Commentary

Europe reaches deal to complete banking union

BRUSSELS, March 20 (Reuters) - European Union negotiators agreed on Thursday to complete Europe's banking union with a new agency to shut euro zone banks that are too weak to survive and a fund to help cover the costs, according to a draft agreement.

All-night talks ended a stand-off between the European Parliament and euro zone countries over the new scheme, completing the second leg of banking union after supervision by the European Central Bank.

The details of the compromise are outlined in a draft agreement and were confirmed by people involved in the talks.

Under the compromise reached, a fund made up by levies on banks will be built up over eight years, rather than 10 as originally envisaged. It will also be possible for countries to share 40 percent of the fund from its first year.

The deal also envisages giving the European Central Bank the primary role in triggering the closure of a bank, making it harder for the new 'resolution' agency to do so and limiting the scope for country ministers to challenge such a move. Pope Hero Worship?

Though we can applaud the Pope's gesture in rejecting "hero-worship" yet we wonder why he still permits "pope-worship." No one in all the scriptures, including Peter and Paul, allowed people to bow down to them - besides Jesus. This is all part of the "mystery of iniquity" that the Bible (2 Thesa. 2:1-9) warned us that would be seen just before Jesus returned. -Advent Messenger Commentary

Pope Francis rejects hero-worship and says he is a normal person
March 5, 2014
By Lizzy Davies

He has graced the cover of Rolling Stone, been depicted as a street-art superhero and is greeted by crowds of adoring fans wherever he goes. But Pope Francis has told a newspaper he has had enough of the hero worship that has accompanied his year-long papacy, describing it as offensive and insisting he is just "a normal person".

In an interview published in the Italian paper Corriere della Sera almost 12 months after his election, Francis said he objected to the image of him that has been widely propagated.

The Argentinian pontiff, 77, has dramatically altered the style of the papacy, making a series of symbolic choices that have solidified his persona as a plain-living, down-to-earth and genial head of the Catholic church.

"Sigmund Freud used to say, if I'm not mistaken, that in every idealisation there is an attack," he said. "Depicting the pope as a kind of superman, a kind of star, seems to me offensive. The pope is a man who laughs, cries, sleeps calmly and has friends like everyone else. A normal person."

Entitled "Il Mio Papa", or "My Pope", the fanzine contains an array of Francis trivia and comment, including tips on the best places to stand in St Peter's Square to catch his Sunday blessing, photographs of the guesthouse where he lives, and a centerfold picture of the pontiff smiling in his white cassock.

The All-powerful State

There is no doubt that these restrictions will be needed as a vehicle to enforce the mark of the beast. There will be seen a strong-grip control over everything - banking, buying, selling, communications, and travel. We are seeing more and more of this everyday. It's all part of the apparatus needed to control the people. -Advent Messenger Commentary

NSA Can Retrieve, Replay Phone Calls

AFP News
March 18, 2014
by Rob Lever

Washington (AFP) - America's National Security Agency has technology that is capable of recording the phone calls of an entire country and replaying them later, a report based on leaked documents said Tuesday.

The Washington Post, citing papers released by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, said the eavesdropping agency's equipment functions like a time machine by being able to reach into the past.

The report said the NSA can collect 100 percent of the calls of a target country, reaching as far back as one month with tools called MYSTIC and RETRO. The leaked documents say the technology can "retrieve audio of interest that was not tasked at the time of the original call."

If true, the program would be more powerful than any other that the NSA has, allowing the spy agency to tap into the entire network from a country. Jameel Jaffer of the American Civil Liberties Union called the report "a truly chilling revelation."

"The NSA has always wanted to record everything, and now it has the capacity to do so," Jaffer said in a statement.

"The question now is simply whether we have the political will to impose reasonable limits on the NSA's authority – that is, whether we have the political will to protect our democratic freedoms."

Zeke Johnson at Amnesty International USA said: "The NSA is making George Orwell seem unimaginative. If true, this latest revelation should be a clarion call for reform."

The National Security Agency did not confirm or deny the report but said in a statement that its electronic spying was not "arbitrary," and noted that its methods respect laws and the privacy rights of Americans and foreigners.

US officials have defended the tactics as necessary to thwart terror attacks, though President Barack Obama has ordered reforms for the surveillance programs.

Documents leaked by Snowden in 2013 revealed widespread surveillance of individuals and institutions in the United States and around the world.

Uniting Church and State

First it will be the commandment, second will be the prayers, and finally it will be a national day of Rest followed by the implantation of the mark of the beast. We are seeing the final movements taking shape. Thankfully, the Lord will appear just a short time afterwards. -Advent Messenger Commentary

Alabama Bills seeks 10 Commandments, Prayers in Schools
Associated Press
February 23, 2014
by Kim Chandler

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama lawmakers are proposing a multitude of school prayer and religious expression bills this session. Legislators say the bills are an effort to push efforts to squash all vestiges of religion from the public square. Opponents called the bills election-year pandering and said the proposals are either unnecessary or unconstitutional.
Uniting Church and State
"I think there is frustration on the constant restrictions that have been coming. I remember when I was in first and second grade you could have prayer in school. All of the sudden you couldn't do those things," said Joe Godfrey, executive director of the church-based Alabama Citizens Action Program.

Susan Watson, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama, sees it differently.

"I think it's an election year and legislators are doing everything they can to speak to their base. I think they are trying to garner votes," Watson said.

Rep. Steve Hurst, R-Munford, has proposed to set aside up to 15 minutes at the start of each school day to study the procedures of Congress, including having teachers give a verbatim reading of a congressional opening prayer.

Hurst said he thought of the idea after thinking about how Congress and the Alabama Legislature begin their days with prayer, but schools can't.

Hurst said he thought the time could be educational and that teachers might pick prayers that relate to the day's lesson. He said that might include the assassination of President John F. Kennedy or the lean times of the Great Depression. He said students could be excused if they didn't want to hear the prayer part of the lesson.

Watson called the bill a "cunning" attempt to get prayer back in school, but said it was also "clearly unconstitutional."

"It's prayer dressed up like a civics lesson," Watson said.

The Alabama House of Representatives on Thursday approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow the display of the Ten Commandments in schools and other public buildings. The copy of the Ten Commandments would have to be mingled with other historic documents, according to the legislation.

"Sometimes we forget that separation of church and state was not to make sure we don't have any references, because the founding fathers clearly did that, it just means that there cannot be a state sponsored religion and you can't force a religion on anyone," Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, said.

"Now, will there be a challenge? Absolutely, there will be a challenge. Are there liberal judges out there who would love to say it's unconstitutional? Absolutely. But I believe it is the right thing to do," Hubbard said.

Rob Boston, director of communications for the Washington D.C.-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said the state was inviting lawsuits if it approved either bill.

Vatican and America Unite

Here we see the 1st beast of Revelation 13 uniting with the 2nd beast of the same chapter. Is it possible that the 2nd beast (USA) is ready to receive its marching order from the 1st beast (Rome)? If so, then the rest of the chapter is about to be fulfilled and the mark of the beast is coming next. -Advent Messenger Commentary

Boehner Invites Pope Francis to Address Congress
USA Today
March 13, 2014
 by Susan Davis

WASHINGTON— House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, extended a formal and open invitation Thursday to Pope Francis to address a joint meeting of Congress. If the pontiff accepts, it would be unprecedented. No pope or religious leader that serves as a head of state has ever addressed Congress, according to the U.S. House Historian's office.

"His address as a visiting head of state before a joint meeting of the House and Senate would honor our nation in keeping with the best traditions of our democratic institutions," Boehner said in a statement. " It would also offer an excellent opportunity for the American people as well as the nations of the world to hear his message in full."

Boehner, who is Catholic, said Pope Francis has inspired millions of Americans with his "pastoral manner and servant leadership" to reflect on matters of human dignity, freedom and social justice.

"These principles are among the fundamentals of the American idea," Boehner said, "and though our nation sometimes fails to live up to these principles, at our best, we give them new life as we seek the common good."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., also a Catholic, said she joined welcoming Pope Francis to address Congress. Pelosi attended his inauguration at the Vatican and praised him as "a moral force."

Thursday marks one year since the papal conclave elected Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, after the resignation of Pope Benedict.

Francis marked the occasion on his @Pontifex Twitter account with a simple message to his 3.7 million followers: "Please pray for me."
